Appearance

It is ones inner beauty, or heart, that counts. Not the outward, or physical, appearance
1 Samuel 16:7 KJV
But the Lord said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.

Apparel may be nice, but it does not change who you are or how you appear to God
1 Peter 3:3-4 KJV
Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
(This does not mean it’s wrong (for women) to braid your hair or wear nice clothes and jewelry. The verse was written to warn women not to follow the customs of some of the Egyptian women who, during that time period, spent hours and hours working on their hair, makeup, and finding the perfect outfit. God would rather see women work on becoming beautiful on the inside — the kind of beauty that lasts forever.)

Cross-dressing is an abomination to God. Men are not to wear women’s clothing and women are not to wear men’s clothing.
Deuteronomy 22:5 KJV
The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the Lord thy God.
(Some people think this verse would prohibit women from wearing pants because pants have traditionally been worn by men. But, in light of the similarity of men’s and women’s clothing in Biblical times and the fact that pants were not worn by either sex at that time, that conclusion would be difficult to justify.)

Men are not to alter the hair on their head or face (hair and beard). Head hair and facial is to set upon your head and face in the manner and shape it grows in.
Leviticus 19:27 KJV
Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard.

Where as tattoos may look nice, tattoos in memory of loved ones are a nice gesture; tattoos should be avoided. Having a tattoo will not stop your ability of being saved by Jesus, nor will Spiritual Messiah frown upon you for having tattoos, but you should avoid getting them.
Leviticus 19:28 KJV
Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord.
[It’s important to note that this verse and surrounding verses were speaking of pagan rituals of the people’s surrounding the Israelites. In todays day tattoo’s can have numerous meanings and purposes. Not all tattoo’s today necessarily have pagan meaning. In fact Rev. Dr. Red of Spiritual Messiah Ministries has a tattoo symbolizing Golgotha (the place where Jesus was crucified) and the Crucifixion of Jesus. So whereas today tattoos may have a meaning or symbolize ones faith in Christ, you should think long and consider the pros and cons before getting one. If possible, should be avoided; though are not frowned upon]

We were created in the image and likeness of God. Therefore we should not alter our appearance.
Genesis 1:26-27 KJV
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Exercising and staying in shape is a good thing, but God expects us to stay in shape spiritually by reading our Bibles, praying, and going to church on a regular basis. In other words, there will be plenty of people who put their time and effort into staying in shape but who are out of shape spiritually. If they don’t know Jesus Christ, their perfect bodies won’t get them through the gates of heaven.
1 Timothy 4:8 KJV
For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.

Beauty fades with age, so if you are more concerned with your outer appearance, you will be unhappy when the wrinkles come and the number on the scale goes up. In fact, did you know that your body may show the beginning signs of aging as early as age twenty? That is why God wants us to “fear” Him. That doesn’t mean to be afraid of Him but rather to be in awe of Him and all that He has done. Let me put it to you this way. If you stand two girls next to each other and one is Miss Teen USA whose beauty is limited to physical beauty, and the other young lady is a more average-looking girl who loves the Lord more than anything, she is the more beautiful girl in the eyes of God.
Proverbs 31:30 KJV
Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.
